An arbitrator may be changed only when (a) a party challenges the appointment and the challenge is proved to be correct, or (b) the arbitrator does not want to go ahead, or (c) the arbitrator has any kind of disability.

A party may challenge the arbitrator only for reasons which he/she becomes aware after the appointment has been made.

In the case of the Cadre rules, a challenge must be sent to the Cadre Case Officer within 48 hours from the receipt of notice of appointment or confirmation of the arbitrator, or within 48 hours from the date that the party making the challenge was in receipt of information of the facts and circumstances on which the challenge is based. The Case Officer will look into the challenge and decide the further course of action.
